EXOGENOUS INFLUENCES ON GROWTH AND WOOD FORMATION OF PLANTATION GROWN TROPICAL TREE SPECIES IN CENTRAL AMAZONIA

O. Duenisch, J.Bauch, L.Gasparotto, Hamburg University, Germany

Since 1995 the influence of site factors (mineral element, water supply) on tree growth and wood formation of 8 native tree species is studied in 3 different plantation systems. The mineral element and water supply of the trees is studied in terms of quantified input and output data of the plant systems. The carbohydrate, phytohormone, water and mineral element supply of the cambium is quantified intrannaually. Wood formation of the trees is studied in terms of cambial cell division, cell enlargement during primary wall phase, secondary wall formation and lignification of the cells. The site factors, physiological parameters and growth parameters were correlated as to select suitable tree species for mixed plantation systems in Central Amazonia on the basis of the study of environment-tree growth relationships.
