Davlianidze, Malvina, Institute of Botany of the Georgian Academy of Sciences,380007, Tbilisi, Georgia

The study reviews the result of a monographic karyosystematical survey of the Old Mediterranean genera Gagea Salisb and Lloydia Salisb. The first one is the largest and rather polymorphous g. of Liliaccae .Up to now more then 85 taxons have been explored karyologically. New basic number has been mentioned in different sections: x=6,9,12. recognition of Gagea afganica as the most ancient sp. within the genus in confirmed by its chorology and the lowest chromosome number 2n=12(x=6). In this genus a great amount ofsp. with different levels of polyploidy, as well as aneuploydy is found(2n=12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 72, c.102 ). Philogeny for the major speciesgroups based on the karyosystematical investigations and new systemof g. Gagea is discussed. Our results stress different aspects of the relationship in genera Gagea and Lloydia.
