The cDNA clone of vernalization related gene (verc203) was firstly reported by our group in 1994. It was identified to be an important function in initiating of flowering by suing the antisense RNA strategy (Chong et al., 1998). The cDNA 3' end of ver203 (1197 bp) was cloned by using the RACE approach. It was identified by Northern blot that its expression was specific to the vernalization treatment. After comparing the sequence to the GenBank/EBML/DDBJ, it has homology with Hordeum vulgare jesmonate-induced protein gene. It is suggested that the gene may control initiation of flowering in wheat through its expression which was stimulated the environment signal mediated by jasmonate.
