Tong Cao, Shuiliang Guo and Chien Gao (Inst. of Applied Ecology, Academia Sinica, Shenyang)

Based on revisional study, 55 species belonging to six genera of Grimmiaceae are recognized in China. Researches of diversity and distribution pattern of Chinese Grimmiaceae with cluster analysis showed: (1) North temperate elements comprise the greatest portion of the family (55.93%), East Asian elements rank the second (25.42%), four species are endemic to China (6.78%) and only two species belong to tropic elements (3.39%). (2) Southwestern China, Jilin, Shaauxi and Taiwan are relatively rich in species diversity of Grimmiaceae in China. (3) There are obvious differences of geographic composition between the genera Racomitrium and Grimmia in China. High proportion of east Asian elements together with some tropic species is found in the genus Racomitrium, while the genus Grimmia is rich in north temperate elements.
