DEVELOPMENT OF GROUND VEGETATION IN DIFFERING SITES OF SCOTS PINE FORESTS IN THE NORTH-WEST OF RUSSIA

I. Bakkal, Komarov Botanical Institute, Prof. Popov str., 2, St. Petersburg, 197376, Russia

Vegetation developing was analysed in well-drained Scots pine forests in the Kola peninsula burned at various time. There was a difference in correlations between coverages of species and different characteristics of sites in forests burned 40-60 and 90-210 years ago. Correlation between the cover of Vaccinium myrtillus and thickness of forest floor averaged respectively r=0.74*** and r=0.23, , correlation between the cover of Ledum palustre and share of lichens in moss-lichen layer averaged r=0.07 and r=0.57** respectively. Highest correlation was found between the total cover of the dwarf-shrubs and the share of lichens in moss-lichen layer (r=0.82***) in both samples. Work was supported by grant from Russian Foundation for Fundamental Investigations (N 97-04-49617)
