WOOD, BARK AND LEAF ANATOMY OF TAXODIACEAE WITH REFERENCE TO TAXONOMY AND ECOLOGY

Tatiana V. Arsenieva, Komarov Botanical Institute, 2 Popov Str., St. Petersburg 197376 Russia

The wood, bark and leaf structure of new branches of ten genera of twelve species in Taxodiaceae Neger, are described and compared from a systematic and ecological perspective. This investigation allow to allocate and estimate some structure characteristics for a determination of representatives of this group till their species. That kind of problem can be solved only by the complex study of wood, bark and leaf anatomical structure (more than sixty characteristics). Significant indications are a shape of pith and quantitative correlations of diameters of phloem, xylem and pith. The most interesting objects with this point of view are species of Athrotaxis. For the purposes of taxonomy should be investigated the shape of pith of two-years-old branches. All the rest characteristics do not have close connections with the age of studying samples.
