A PALYNOLOGICAL STUDY OF THE GENUS CROTALARIA L. (LEGUMINOSAE) IN TAIWAN

HUEY-WEN LIN and TSENG-CHIENG HUANG, Botany Department, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan

Pollen morphology of 18 Crotalaria taxa in Taiwan were studied by both scanning and transmission electron microscopes. After a close examination of pollen morphology, especially we had paid an attention to the different types of anthers in order to find their variaion , but we find that they are very similar. The identifiction based on pollen morphology among taxa of Crotalaria are also found indistintive, however, five pollen types can be suggested by the nature of exine ornamentation. All five pollen types have the same exine stratification, and their interstitia are collumelate. The variation of pollen feature in all species of Crotalaria L. is small, and pollen morphology is not a good criterion for the identification of this genus.Keywards: Dimorphic stamens, Pollen, Crotalaria (Leguminosae), Taiwan
