The analysis of the distribution of water-chestnut started in Hungary in 1996, in the Kisköre reservoir by the Tisza river. In this paper we would like to show the morphological features of water-chestnut and their changes influence the develompment of the species. We examined (1)the growth forms of water-chestnut occurring in homogeneous populations and in population mixed with other water plant species,(2)the average surface area of emerged and submerged leaves,(3)the changes of average number of ripe fruits and (4)the length and average daily growth of underwater sprouts. In the examined area we could distinguish two growth forms of water-chestnut. The formation and number of fruits are regulated by autoregulational processes, which can be connected with the surface area of emerged and submerged leaves and the average daily growth of underwater sprouts.
