XVI International Botanical Congess
We have undertaken an investigation of the genetic effects of long-term interactions between Acacia trees and their insect pollinators, including studies of genetic structure and pollen gene flow. Acacia (Leguminosae: Mimosoideae) comprises one of the most diverse and ecologically important woody genera in dry tropical forests, and over 100 Acacia species can be found in Africa. We are currently using starch gel electrophoresis to assess allozyme diversity in several diploid species, the collections of which come from populations at the Mpala Research Centre in Kenya. In this presentation, we will discuss levels of genetic diversity within and genetic divergence between populations of A. mellifera.
