An isolate of a freshwater Prymnesium has been examined using both light and electron microscopy (TEM/SEM).This freshwater species appears to have three scales types. The cells have two equal or subequal flagella and a noncoiling, short and flexible haptonema. The structure and arrangement of cell organelles resembles that of the other described Prymnesium species, except that the number of chloroplasts/cell varies from 2-5.
