The final session of the phenology symposium is devoted to discussion among speakers and the audience toward identifying major issues in phenology research that would benefit from community-wide interaction. We seek suggestions about key topics as well as examples of alternative methodologies and existing data sets. Some a priori topics for discussion are: differences among studies of leaf, flower and fruit phenology, methods for data collection and analysis, and data requirements for studies with different goals (e.g., understanding plant physiology, measuring food availability for animals). We wil also discuss and develop consensus on activities of the phenology community at future international meetings.
