A phylogenetic tree based on 25S rDNA nucleotide sequence data for about 700 taxa of agaricoid mushrooms and relatives (gasteromycetes, secotioid and reduced forms) is presented. Based on phylogenetic analyses, a revised classification is proposed for genera and families in the Agaricales. Problems regarding translation of phylogenetic trees into formal Linnean classification are illustrated. See http://www.botany.duke.edu/fungi/mycolab/agarical.htm
