Abstract Number: 3345
Session = A positional cloning strategy was used to isolate the FK gene. The mutant phenotype was complemented by two operlapping cosmids. Six fk mutant alleles were sequenced and found to represent disruptions in the predicted open reading frame. Molecular characterization of FK, a novel gene, is in progress and will be presented.

We are interested in the role of the FK gene in the coordination of cell division with pattern formation in embryogenesis. Mutations in FK affect cell division and elongation in the center of the embryo. The mutant defect is traced back to the mid-globular stage. fk mutant seedlings display a disorganized vasculature and the hypocotyl is shortened or deleted.
