XVI International Botanical Congess
Genetic control of isozymes in 13 enzyme systems in diploid taro, Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott, was determined using PAGE and IEF, enzymes included ACP(EC3.1.3.2), ADH(EC1.1.1.1), DIA(EC1.6.99.-), EST(EC3.1.1.), GOT(EC2.6.1.1), HEX(EC2.7.1.1), IDH(EC1.1.1.42), PGD(EC1.1.1.44), PGI(EC5.3.1.9), PGM(EC5.4.2.2), LAP(EC3.4.11.1), SKD(EC1.1.1.25) and SOD(EC1.15.1.1). Overall 21 loci with 46 alleles were detected and four linkage groups involving 14 loci were determined. Allozyme analyses of taro accessions from the Southeast Asian countries indicated geographical differentiation of the accessions and autopolyploid origin of triploid taros. Detailed procedures of isozyme detection and zymograms will be presented at the poster site for future reference of isozyme analysis for taro and related taxa.
