Abstract Number: 3231
Session = Androgenic embryogenesis is genotype-dependent, high embryo induction rate can be obtained from certain genotypes. New established PG-96 induction medium is used in timothy and rye studies and achieves the best results. Other critical factors such as pretreatment of donor material, culture density, osmotic pressure and regeneration ability also act as important roles in androgenic embryogenesis. Many DH plants have been obtained from these crops and utilized in plant breeding.

HAPLOID PRODUCTION IN TURNIP, TIMOTHY AND RYE

Seppo Pulli and Yangdong Guo Department of Biology, University of Turku, 20014, Turku, Finland

Turnip (Brassica campestris L.), rye (Secale cereale L.) and timothy (Phleum pratense L.) are important crops in Finland. Selection at the DH level is more reliable and effective than at the dihaploid level, DH plants are also very useful in hybrid breeding and genetic studies. The androgenic cell culture and plant regeneration methods have been successfully established in these crops.
