A strict consensus of phylogenetic trees derived by parsimony analysis of molecular sequence (trnL intron, trnL-F spacer) and morphological data for one hundred and fifty-two accessions that represent the major tribes in the Apocynaceae s.l. is used to evaluate contemporary classification systems. The classification systems that will be evaluated are those of Leeuwenberg (1994), Swarupanandan et al. (1996), and Endress and Bruyns (1999).
