The taxonomic revision of Mimosa was undertaken as part of the project Flora del Valle de Tehuacan-Cuicatlan. This region, located in southeastern Puebla and northwestern Oaxaca has a great biodiversity, 350 species of vascular plants are endemic to the valley. Fourteen species of the genus are found in the region, and 12 of them are endemic to Mexico. Mimosa calcicola, M. luisana, M. pueblensis and M. purpusii are restricted to the valley. The studied species grow in pine and oak forests, deciduous forest, and xerophytic vegetation at altitudes of 500-2600 m. A key to species, their nomenclature, affinities, phenology and distribution patterns are given.
