XVI International Botanical Congess
Clarkia lingulata (Onagraceae)is hypothesized to be derived from Clarkia biloba ssp. australis. Clarkia lingulata differs from C. biloba by petal shape and chromosomal aberrations. Intra- and interspecific crosses are being conducted, the parents, F1 hybrid and backcross progeny are being measured and screened with RAPD primers. Twenty-nine percent polymorphism has been detected between species, and one percent detected between the two populations of C. lingulata. There are significant differences between the two populations of C. lingulata for emergence(p=0.019) and between C. biloba and one population of C. lingulata for first true leaf appearance(p=0.006). Linkage maps will be constructed and QTL analysis performed from observed segregation ratios.
