XVI International Botanical Congess

A project is underway to put the entire herbarium of the Fairchild Tropical Garden (FTG) onto the web in both textual and photographic format. The project exploits new technological advancements in data delivery and the drastic rearrangement of the costs of the different components of database construction and delivery to provide a truly modern and efficient system for building and delivering botanical metadata as well as the actual label and specimen data from which it is derived. Our system integrates high resolution photos of all specimens and their labels, as well as photos of living plants and links to derived data to provide an extensive botanical information resource. http://www.ftg.fiu.edu
