An analysis of the distribution of vascular plants in Argentina, with special reference to endemics

Fernando O. Zuloaga & Osvaldo Morrone Instituto de Botánica Darwinion, CC 22, San Isidro (1642), Argentina

The purpose of this work is to describe and discuss the distribution of vascular plants in Argentina, with special reference to endemic genera and species, and overall distribution of these plants in the Andes. The information is going to be mainly obtained from the checklist of vascular plants of Argentina (Zuloaga et al., 1994, Zuloaga & Morrone, 1996, and in press), from this source we are going to illustrate the distribution of different families and genera, emphasising the percentage of the taxa in the area, and indicating narrow and national endemics. The distribution of these endemics is going to be discussed in relation to the phytogeography of the region, elevation ranges. Additionally, different plant forms present within these groups will be analysed.
