The Maize Genome Database is complex and information-rich. For the database to be effectively used by a broad range of users, information retrieval must be a user-friendly experience. The information needs to be effectively retrieved and delivered to scientists and a broad range of other users. An improved biological and botanical basis of the database is being attained by the development and implementation of a biologically and taxonomically sound complement of descriptors and associated vocabulary for traits and phenotypes.
