XVI International Botanical Congess
It has long been known that the Amaranthaceae and Chenopodiaceae are closely related and recent evidence has supported this view with the exception of Sarcobatus, which recently has been removed from this order. However, there is little consensus on how to classify the members of the Chenopodiales. While most botanists recognize two families, Amaranthaceae and Chenopodiaceae, there have been several alternatives proposed in the past 30 years. Furthermore studies of sequence data and leaf structure suggest other relationships. Past classifications and other data will be reviewed and a classification proposed.
