XVI International Botanical Congess

The collection of new nontraditional fruit and berry-producing plants, unique for the steppe zone has been developed in the Donetsk Botanical gardens since 1979.On the basis of this collection first in our region there was carried out a complex introductory study of honeysuckle species (Lonicera L.subsect.Caeruleae Rehd.)and original data in phenorythmics, biology of flowering and fruitage, onthogenesis, morphogenesis were obtained, an ecological amplitude of species according to the assessment of their winter-hardiness and drought-resistance was determined. The criteria for the honeysuckle selection were defined and perspective selection forms (L.edulis Turcz. ex Freyn and L. kamtschatica (Sevast.)Pojark.)which are adapted to extreme climatic conditions of the Ukrainian south-east were obtained.
