XVI International Botanical Congess
All molecular data available for angiosperms clearly support the recognition of a large group of eudicots with diplostemonous flowers, the eurosids, composed of two major subclades. The eurosid I clade is cmposed of Celastrales, Cucurbitales, Fabales, Fagales, Malpighiales, Oxalidales, Rosales and Zygophyllales. The eurosid II clade contains Brassicales, Malvales and Sapindales, but the position of several major eurosid orders, Crossomatales, Geraniales and Myrtales, is not yet clear. Successive sisters to both major eurosid clades are Vitaceae and Saxifragales. Previous concepts of dilleniid and hamamelid dicots are not reflected at all in these molecular patterns with component families falling into the asterids, Caryophyllales, and Saxifragales, as well as eurosids.
