Chara is multicellular algae and has multicellular reproductive organ. Its sex organ structure resembles that of bryophyte, and its body organization is closely related to that of the ancestor of land plants. As for Chara, we tried to isolate MADS-box genes, by RT-PCR. We cloned one from Chara ,the CbMADS1. CbMADS1 has two conserved domains ,MADS and K-domain,characteristic to plant only. we performed various molecular biological experiments and molecular phylogenetical analyses using the CbMADS1 cDNA clone and sequence. We will report here on the plant evolutionary findings obtained from the analyses of CbMADS1.
