Quercetin/kaempferol/isorhamnetin-arabinosylgalactoside and each monoacetylated type were identified in Trillium species of Japan. Their distribution patterns were characteristic in each species. Different glycosidic types of flavonoid were found in pollen : kaempferol 3,4'-diglucoside , 3-galactoside-4'-glucoside and 3-rhamnosylglucoside. As steroid saponins, diosgenin 3-rhamnosylglucoside, pennogenin 3-chacotrioside and 3-rhamnosylchacotrioside and protodioscin were identified in the species, these distribution patterns were also varied in each species. Ditribution patterns of flavonoids and steroid saponins were compared between the species of Japan and some species of North America. The results were discussed from chemotaxonomical and physiological points of view.
