Through the field researches carried out in Oregon and California, USA, and Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras during 1997 and 1998, total 176 plant samples were collected. They were divided into roots, stems, leaves and fruits, etc., then extracted with various solvents such as acetone, methanol, 70% methanol and water. The extracts obtained have been used for biological tests of HIV growth inhibition, anti-tumor activity and screening compounds regulating differentiation into adipocyte in 3T3-L1 cells. Remarkable inhibition was observed in extracts from Annonaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Compositae, Cupressaceae, Labiatae, Lythraceae, Onaglaceae, Piperaceae, Polygalaceae and etc.
