Santiago Xolalpa-Molina and Abigail Aguilar-Contreras.Herbario IMSSM.

The aim was to register the actual medicinal use of maize in the Yoreme (Mayo) ethnic group, that inhabits the northern region of the state of Sinaloa. The method used consisted of carrying out open interviews with traditional Yoreme therapeutists, collecting of botanical material with the companionship of the traditional physician, and the reviewing of the information in the IMSSM Herbarium. So, as a result of the study, we found that maize is an important element in the procedure of health care, that is included in the treatment of fertility and urinary system disorders, as a indispensable element or in diagnostic procedures. We concluded that obtained results reflect the vast knowledge the Yoreme have of their plant therapeutic resources and the importance of the existing link between alimentary and medicinal resources.
