SYSTEMATICS AND PATTERNS OF GEOGRAPHIC DISTRIBUTION OF NEOTROPICAL ALCHORNEAE (EUPHORBIACEAE)

Ricardo de S. Secco - Museu Emílio Goeldi, Belém-PA, Brasil.

The tribe Alchorneae (Hurus.) Hutchinson is represented in neotropical region for the genera Aparisthimium Endl. with one species with wide geographic distribution in South America, Alchornea Sw. with 22 species distributed in Central and South America, Conceveiba Aubl. with 11 species distributed in Central and South America. Alchornea presents 7 species with wide pattern of distribution, 12 species with restricted pattern of distribution and 3 species with very restricted pattern of distribution. Conceveiba presents 3 species with wide pattern of distribution, 6 species with restricted pattern of distribution and 2 species with very restricted pattern of distribution. A preliminary cladistic analysis using paleotropical monotypic genera Wetria and Bossera as out-groups has supported the inclusion of Conceveibastrum and Gavarretia in Conceveiba (CNPq)
