In vitro plantlet regeneration and somatic embryogenesis from etiolated internodes of Spathiphylum cv. Sensation are reported. Internode explants produced adventitious shoots either directly or indirectly through callus from wound sites cultured on modified MS medium plus various amounts of BA, BA plus NAA, 2,4-D and kinetin, or zeatin. Nodule-like structures and subsequent shoot regeneration were observed on MMS medium plus thidiazuron (TDZ) alone or with picloram. Somatic embryos were induced on medium containing£]-naphthoxyacetic acid (NOA) and 2,4-D. Rooting could be induced on media with various amounts of IBA or NAA in regenerated shoots. Reducing MS major salt level and lower amount of IBA were helpful for root formation.
