A characterization of the riparian and slope forests along to the Lençóis River, in the Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil (12° 33'S x 41° 25'W) examining the floristic and phenology of the tree component. Floristic studies identified 87 tree species in the gallery forest, with the Myrtaceae, Leguminosae, Melastomataceae, Euphorbiaceae and Chrysobalanaceae providing the largest number of species, the montane forest survey identified 56 species, with Leguminosae, Melastomataceae, Myrtaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Apocynaceae dominating. Field observations revealed a moderate peak of leaf fall in the dry season, with increased leaf budding, flowering and fruiting in the rainy season. The two forest types were predominantly evergreen, although the montane forest showed a more pronounced deciduous component.
