Lineages in the Andes: the fern genus Campyloneurum (Polypodiaceae)

Blanca León, Museo de Historia Natural, UNMSM, Lima-14, Peru

The genus Campyloneurum is mostly tropical American in distribution with 47 species. For this genus, mountainous areas provide many opportunities for speciation, since most species are found above 1000 m elevation. The Andean region is the most speciose with 33 species of which 15 are endemic. Phylogenetic analysis of morphological data was performed using the genus Microgramma as the outgroup. Campyloneurum appears to be monophyletic, and it includes both pinnate and entire leaf species. I will address species affinities and analyze their biogeographical patterns.
