Masayuki Machida1 and Osamu Akita2, 1National Institute of Bioscience and Human-Technology, 2National Research Institute of Brewing

The sequencing of Aspergillus nidulans chromosome IV has been initiated at aim for completion of sequencing the entire A. nidulans genome. We have sequenced a cosmid SW06H01 on chromosome VIII, which had overlapped region with W06E08 already sequenced by Prade et al. Aspergillus oryzae is an important fungus in Japanese beverage and fermentation industries, and to produce industrially valuable enzymes. To address the mechanism of strong promoters, which are important for protein production, we randomly sequenced the cDNA libraries and identified the highly redundant genes. We have cloned all the glycolytic genes, which are expected to have strong promoters having common regulatory elements. Our Web site containing the above sequence data will be announced.
