A NICE ANISOTROPY: HOW DOES A PLANT ORGAN GROW TO A DEFINED SHAPE?

Tobias I. Baskin, Division of Biological Sciences, University of Missouri at Columbia

I will report the results of testing a hyptothesis to explanin how cells control the degree of anisotropy at which the expand. It was hypothesized that the degree of anisotropic expansion is proportional to the degree of alignment among cortical microtubules and cellulose microfibrils. Using the root of Zea maize, I will present data that falsifies the hypothesis.
