The six sites sampled were distributed at lowland up to montane forest in Serra do Mar and Serra da Mantiqueira. Each site was a 1ha plot and canopy components were defined by matching allometric parametrs (DPH >= 10 cm, height >= 10m). Data for 134 species were processed for cluster analysis, considering Euclidean and Manhattan distances, linked by UPGMA. The same species were classified by areas with TWINSPAN. Cluster analysis could not detect consistent floristic groups. The TWINSPAN classification showed an altitudinal gradient between lowland and montane areas, with no distinct floristc group between Serra do Mar and Serra da Mantiqueira.
