Podocarpus roraimae Pilger 1913Common NamesTaxonomic notes"Type: Venezuela, Estado Bolivar, 2040-2255 m, Ule 40 (holotype, B)" (1).Description"Shrub to small tree from 3-10 m. Leaves ovate or oblong to oblanceolate, up to 6 cm long and 0.8 cm wide in juvenile and vigorous shoots, 2-3 cm long and 0.4-0.6 cm wide in reproductive and adult shoots, with short petiole 1.5-3 mm long, obtuse at apex, with a median ridge on upper surface or caniculate between two narrow ridges and a median groove in lower surface, gradually narrowed at base, margins flat to slightly revolute. Bud scales attenuate to acuminate, foliaceous. Microsporangiate strobilus never described. Ovulate strobilus with peduncle 4-5 mm long, receptacle 6 mm long, with two fused bracts with divergent apices. Seed ovoid, 8 mm long, 5 mm in diameter, obtuse and distinctly cristate at apex" (1).Range"Endemic to the mountains bordering Venezuela and Guyana at 1800-2400 m. Not yet known from the Guianas but definitely to be found; as the type locality is on the western side of Mt.
