Taxonomic notes

Syn: A. vejari Martínez, orth. err. (1). Besides the type, there are two described infraspecific taxa:

Abies vejarii ssp. mexicana (Martínez) Farjon 1990 (syn: A. mexicana Martínez 1942; A. vejarii var. mexicana (Martínez) Liu) (1).

Abies vejarii ssp. vejarii var. macrocarpa Martínez.

Range

Mexico: SE Coahuila to Nuevo León and W Tamaulipas, in two disjunct areas in the northern part of the Sierra Madre Oriental of N Mexico. Abies vejarii ssp. mexicana is found in high mountains at (2000-)2800-3300 m; the climate is cool, with dry summers and wet winters. Codominant species include pines, oaks, and Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca (1).
