Taxonomic notes

Syn: J. religiosa Royle ex Carrière (2). J. recurva var. coxii (Jacks.) Melv., sometimes classified as a distinct species, is found from N Burma to China: Yunnan (1, 2).

Description

"A shrub or up to 10 m high tree. Crown broadly conical. Branches spreading and slightly recurved. Branchlets pendulous. Bark gray-brown, peeling off in thin strips. Foliage needle-like, in whorls of 3, 3-6 mm long, up to 1 mm wide, sharply pointed, with 2 white bands above. Male and female flowers on the same or on different trees. Fruit ovate, 8-10 mm long, dark purplish-brown, ripening in the second year. Seed solitary" (2).

E Himal (Sikkim & Bhutan) to N Burma and SW China (1, 2).
