Small dioecious evergreen shrub. Leaves hard, pointed, needle-like, sometimes bent (falcate?), to 15 mm long, 2 mm wide, with white stripe on upper side. Cones (berries) at leave bases, rounded, to 12 mm in diameter, dark-blue, soft, each has 3 triangular seeds. Pollination in July, seeds mature Oct.-Nov. of the next year (3).Range
Common in Japan, rare in Russia -- found on sandy seashores of southern Sakhalin Island and perhaps Kuril Islands. Protected (1, 2, 3).Big Tree
