Hybridizations between two Species of Delphinium under Natural Conditions on the Grassland of the Nyika-Plateau in Malawi

To the left: Delphinium dasycaulon To the right: Delphinium loureirii, between them is a hybrid of these two species. Delphinium loureirii is by far the dominant species at the photographed habitat. Delphinium dascyaulon and the hybrid are relatively rare. No segregation of characters of the F2-generation with reciprocal character determination was found. Consequently, it seems that the F1-hybrids do always originate anew. The gene pool of Delphinium dasycaulon thus diminishes, and finally extinction of this species will occur (at least at this site).
