Cross-section through the Leaf of a Graminea (Dactylis glomerata)

The depicted leaf is folded. A lot of sclerenchyma cells are in the rib area at the lower side (counter bearing). This is opposed by two stripes of large cells with thin walls that unfold the lamina when fully turgescent (photography by W. KASPRIK).
