Detection of Unequal Growth at the Two Sides of a Horizontally Fixed Corn Root
Due to Geotropism


Sephadex spheres were placed on the surface of the root tip at regular intervals (A). These intervals became larger at the side with the largest elongation growth during the geotropic bending (B, C). The Sephadex spheres were soaked with a pH-indicator, which showed that elongation is accompanied by an increased proton flux (J.-M. VERSEL, P.-E. PILET, 1986).
