Cytochrome c - Hydrate shell - STING-Tutorial

The following figure is a screenshot of a cytochrome c - representation, produced with the aid of the www-tool STING. To demonstrate the polypeptide chain the modus "wire" was chosen, to show the porphyrin ring a space-filling mode was used, the central iron ion is shown in yellow. The molecule is surrounded by 116 water molecules (red balls) that form the hydrate shell. To obtain such a picture with help of STING chose the STING homepage http://honiglab.cpmc.columbia.edu/STING/. You may obtain the yeast cytochrome c data by selecting the PDP code 1ytc. Else you may find a protein entry code by using the browser.
