Leaf Margins

 


Entire margin: The margin shows no clefts and is entire: to the left: Honeysuckle (Lonicera implexa), to the right: Common Beech (Fagus silvatica)



Serrate: Pointed teeth meet in an acute angle: left and middle picture: Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica); to the right: Hop (Humulus lupulus)



Biserrate: Smaller and larger teeth alternate: left: Birch (Betula pendula), middle: Hornbeam (Corylus betulus), right: Hazel (Corylus avellana)



Runcinate: Leaves have large teeth that are usually pointing backwards and are themselves serrate: to the left: Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
Spinose: The teeth are pointed, the parts between the teeth are rounded: middle picture: Holly (Ilex aquifolium), to the right: Hellebore (Helleborus argutifolius)



Crenate: The leaves are round-toothed with acute angles: left: Dead Nettle (Lamium incisum)
Lobed: With curved or rounded edges: middle left: Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara), middle right: Wayfaring Tree (Viburnum lantana), right: Oak (Quercus)
